Thane (Mumbai) : People are cheated by miracles of ‘Bangali babas’ and they can fall prey to superstitions; but such things can be stopped with the help of existing laws. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has been trying for many years to stop these wrong practices; but the so-called intellectuals, claiming to believe only in science, are trying to ban customs and traditions observed in Hindu Dharma, under the guise of proposed anti-superstitions Act. If those, who want to pass this Act, are really interested in putting a curb on people falling prey to superstitions, mere passing of laws is no solution. Such things can be prevented by creating extensive awareness among people.  The above views were exspressed by Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS for Thane, Mumbai and Raigad. Mr. Vatkar also challenged ‘Andha-sharddha nirmulan samiti’s activists who are trying to pass the new Act that against how many ‘Bangali babas’ action could not be taken because the present laws are not adequate.

A program called ‘Namaskar mandali’ is telecast by ‘Thane Varta’ news channel on every Sunday wherein people can ask questions directly. Last Sunday, for discussions on the topic of ‘How the anti-superstition Bill’ was against Hindus?’ , Mr. Shivaji Vatkar of HJS was invited. In the said program, a ‘jidnyasu’ asked a question that ‘Why should there be opposition if an Act is passed to stop ‘Bangali baba’s cheating.’ While answering the said question, Mr. Vatkar expressed the above views. He also made an appeal to people for extending support to the agitation started by HJS against the proposed Bill emphasizing that the agitation would go on till the Bill is not cancelled.

While concluding the program, Mr. Bhaskar Palanitkar, the program-host said, “Superstition begins where faith ends; but our Saints have guided us to have such strong faith with complete devotion that Hindus are still living on the basis of such strong faith abiding by Hindu culture. If any Act is passed that attacks the faith, it cannot be accepted. Everyone will oppose such Act and from the discussions and explanations given now, it is felt that everyone should oppose this Act. The citizens can send their suggestions on the proposed Act to the Government and HJS so that HJS drive will get support.”
