The demand was made at a conference of heads of Mutts at Sirkazhi, the birth place of Thirugnanasambandar here.

Coimbatore (Tamilnadu) : Two functionaries of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) went on a hunger strike at Kottai Sangameswarar temple here protesting against writer Solai Sundaraperumal and his book Thandavapuram for allegedly defaming Hindu religion and religious practices.

HMK state president Arjun Sampath said that they have been conducting series of agitations for the past few weeks condemning the book that had allegedly criticised Hindu religion and Thirugnanasambandar.
HMK, in order to seek action against the author and to ban the book, has begun a hunger strike at the temple.

Since the police had denied permission for the protest, HMK functionaries – Chandikeswara Suresh and Ganapathy Ravi – began their hunger strike when the Ukkadam police prevented them from staging a hunger strike.

They were later taken to the police station for inquiries, police sources have said.
