Panvel (Maharashtra): Six days have passed since the idol from ‘Suvarna Ganesh Mandir’ was stolen at Diveagar; but no culprit has yet been nabbed. Shiv Sena had given a call of ‘Raigad Bandh’ against the inaction and indifference of the State Government. Hindus from the district extended 100 % support to this call. A warning has been given by Shiv Sena that if the Government fails to nab offenders, there would be bigger agitation. Shiv Sena also held ‘Ghantanaad Andolan (Ringing of Bells agitation)’ at 8.00 p.m. all over the State.
Demonstrations and submission of representation by HJS
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) submitted a representation to the District Collector of Raigad and police station demanding arrest of robbers stealing the Gold idol of Sri Ganesha from Diveagar temple and for providing protection to all important Hindu temples. HJS also held demonstrations outside the office of District Collector at Raigad today.
Panvel – Representations were submitted to the ‘Nayab Tehsildar’, Mr. Kiran Suravase and Police Inspector, Mr. Vivek Lavande of Raigad. Mr. Suravase assured to reach the sentiments of people to the District Collector and the Government, by evening. Mr. Motilal Jain from Jain community, Mr. Bajarang Patil and Chandrakant Patil of Sree Sampradaya, Mr. Baban Sawant of Sanatan Sanstha and Balawant Pathak of HJS were present on the occasion.
Khopoli – Devout Hindus viz. Mr. Kunthe sir, Bhidavari and Mr. Shyam Puranik of HJS submitted representation to police officer Mandave of Khopoli Police Station.
Nature of the representation
Unknown robbers stole the famous gold idol of Sri Ganesha from ‘Suvarna Ganesha Mandir’ at Diveagar in Raigad district as also the Gold ornaments. One security guard has been killed and another has been injured seriously in the brawl. Earlier, similar robbery had taken place at Sri Ekveera Devi temple. All these incidents indicate that police and the ‘Front’- Government is not concerned about the security of worship places of Hindus. People also have a feeling that there is no law and order in the State. ‘Suvarna Sri Ganesha Temple’ is like an adornment of Raigad district. The temple was provided security; but it was withdrawn only few days back and after which such robbery has taken place. We strongly condemn the incompetent Government. All those, who are involved in robbery and attacking Hindus places of worship, should be stringently punished and protection should be provided to all important Hindu temples so as to not hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.

Diveagar (Dist. Raigad, Maharashtra): Early morning on Saturday dacoits stole a golden Ganesh idol weighing 1.5 kilograms along with ornaments from the famous Ganesh temple in Diveagar in Shrivardhan Taluka. Dacoits entered the temple after removing the tiles on the roof of the temple and severely beat the two guards of the temple. Local residents are expressing their anger over this incident.
This golden Ganesh idol was found while digging in a field in Diveagar of Raigad district. Later this idol was established in a temple. Saturday morning the dacoits entered the temple from the roof after removing tiles and broke open the safe and stole the Ganesh idol and ornaments bearing precious stones stored there. When the two security guards Baban Ghadshi and Ananta Bhagat opposed the dacoits, they severely beat the two guards. Ghadshi was later admitted to a hospital in Panvel but he expired while undertaking treatment; Bhagat is in coma. As soon as the Dighi Police Station learnt of this incident they sent a team of Policemen, a dog squad along with fingerprints expert to the site of the robbery. Sunil Tatkare, Gaurdian Minister for Raigad district visited the temple and gave an assurance of providing security to the temple after speaking to the Home Minister. (Guardian Minister and his government which bolts the stable after the horse has run away ! It was the duty of the government to provide security to the temple as it contained a golden idol; but keeping an eye on the revenue of Hindu temples to take control of its operations and turn a blind eye when the issue of security of temple comes up – this anti-Hindu policy is the only policy with the Congress government. Hence Hindus should ensure that such anti-righteous government is never elected back to power ! – Editor SP)
Shiv Sena MLA Mr. Bharat Gogavale said the robberies in the temples are representative of the lack of law and order in the state. He also mentioned that he will question the Home Minister R. R. Patil during the on-going session of the assembly and demanded that Mr Patil puts in his resignation.
