The petitioner referred to the movie promos aired on television and said it portrayed a “sanyasi” named Uthukottai Ulagananda, clad in saffron with rudraskhaw malas, in bad light. The background song and the dialogues hurt Hindus sentiments, the petitioner said, adding that the portrayal was unnecessary and not pertinent to the movie script.

The petitioner also sought denial of permission for the movie release and prayed for an order for the removal of the objectionable portions from the movie permanently.
Filing its counter, the Central Board of Film Certification, through senior panel counsel G. Ravikumar, submitted that the examining committee had examined the movie according to the provisions of the Cinematograph Act and issued the censor certificate under U category on March 19 last with cuts.
