From our correspondent

Recently, Hindu Janjagruti Samiti, a non-profit Hindu organisation, received complaints from devout Hindus about an advertisement
‘MAAZA Asur – Version 1/2/3’ by Coca-cola company in its advertisement to promote a brand ‘MAAZA’. Coca-cola is a popular soft drink brand in india which has denigrated Hindu god in its advertisement called ‘Maaza Asur Version 1/2/3’. The advertisement is being broadcasted during IPL matches on various TV channels from last couple of days.

Details of denigration :

In this advertisement it has been shown that a man in a godly gesture is busy in eating mangos while the two women entertaining him. In the meanwhile a Asur comes to this place and give a call for a war saying “Be a man and lift your weapon and leave the mango”. In the reply the godly man says to him that if he fights a war, he won’t get a chance to eat mangoes till next year. In the reply Asur says “What nonsense, you can get mango in every season” and shows the bottle of Maaza cold drink, one of the brand of Coca Cola company. Then the godly gestured man gets busy in drinking Maaza cold drink and Asur entertains with the women. It is highly objectionable to Hindu religious sentiments that the revered Deities and Symbols are being used in the fictitious context.

Advertisement hurting Hindu sentiments

Coca Cola should note that businesses should handle faiths with utmost care and sensitivity and should not reshape the religious concepts merely to fulfill their financial greed. Symbols of Hindu gods were not meant to be reduced to just a “character” in a advertisement to solidify company/products base in the growing economy of India. Will Coca-Cola dare to ridicule worshiped objects  and symbols of followers of Islam or Christianity ?

Coca cola should immediately withdraw this advertisement showing some “responsibility” to its hurt Hindu customers worldwide. Moreover Coca cola India company should create a high-level check system so that denigrations like this did not happen in the future.

Meanwhile Hindus all over world should protest lawfully and boycott all the Coca cola products including ‘Maaza’ and services till the time they don’t withdraw denigrating advertisement of Hindus gods and apologize to Hindus.
