Hindus warn police of agitation for non-action on denigration complaint

Ahmednagar: A complaint was lodged against Shri. Vishwas Deshmukh, writer of a Marathi book titled ‘Ganapatichi Sangeet Pretyatra’ as the book denigrates Lord Ganesh, the deity worshipped by all Hindus. The complaint was lodged with the police on 26th December 2006 for hurting feelings of Hindus; but no action has been taken. The ardent Hindus have, therefore, warned that an agitation will be started if police fails to take action.

Shri. Tukaram Vahile, a police inspector had accepted the complaint and had registered an offence under Section 295 (A) for hurting religious feelings of Hindus. He had also assured that all copies of the controversial book would be confiscated. But no action has been taken so far. When police were asked reason for the same, an excuse of old age of the writer was given for not taking action. On the other hand, Shri. Deshmukh has been giving interviews to other newspapers everyday and that are being published too.

The ardent Hindus met Police Superintendent in this regard and gave a representation for Shri. R. R. Patil, the State Home Minister. Later the SP directed Shri. Vahile to arrest Shri. Deshmukh. Shri. Deshmukh has stooped to very low level in making mockery of the deity. Many sentences in the book ridicule Lord Ganesh and Goddess Mata Parvati. Also in many places in the book, Sree Ganesh has been referred as an ‘animal’. Hindu Organizations have therefore, warned that if anti-Hindu writer Shri. Deshmukh is not arrested, fierce agitations will be started.
