Mr. Natesan, Govardhan Trust, Tamil Nadu addressing the Convention |
Ramnathi, Ponda (Goa) : There are only 18 crore cows in the whole world and most of them are in India. Despite this fact, the number of foreign breed ‘Jersey’ cows is increasing in India. In contrast, Brazil has large number of cows of Indian origin. In 1967, The late PM Mr. Nehru had donated cows of Indian origin to Brazil for technology development. Today Brazil has become a prosperous country and the scholars there visit our country to educate us on utility of cows of Indian origin. This is a matter of shame to Indians. This was expressed by Mr. Natesan, of ‘Govardhan Trust’ in Tamil Nadu. He was narrating his experiences on ‘Cow –Protection’ in the afternoon session on second day of All India Hindu Convention.
Our Nation is predominantly agricultural and its wealth lies in cows and agricultural soil. Unfortunately we have forgotten that.
Presently there are 6 crore population in Tamil Nadu out of which 3 crores are farmers. However, 2 lakhs amongst them are landless. This is insulting for our country.
Even today 2-3 lakh cows are slaughtered per month in India. An educative campaign needs to be undertaken to create awareness in farmers regarding this. Farmers should be convinced about the utility of old cows. We are working on this problem more. We were helped by a Judge in this endeavor. This means that the society is getting convinced by our education campaign. We have saved 47 thousand cows during last year. We have established 30 large cow-pens for the same.
