HJS demands to cancel certificate for release of the film

Mumbai :

Few scenes from the film ‘Satya, Savitri and Satyawan’ produced by Mrs. Shamal Parab under the banner of ‘Yamaai Pictures’ and directed by Mr. Sarvesh Parab have been posted on the website. None of the scenes or songs is related, in any manner,  to ‘Savitri and Satyawan’, the two personalities revered by Hindus and even then, the name of the film is ‘Satya, savitri and Satyawan’. This title insults seats of worship of Hindus; therefore, its certificate for release should be cancelled. The above demand has been made by Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through an email sent to Central Film Censor Board.Mr. Vatkar has stated in this e-mail that ‘ Ideals like Satyawan and Savitri can only help people to sail through today’s difficult time. Doing anything against such ideals is not healthy from the viewpoint of art as also for society. Using names of Savitri and Satyawan to show immorality in film is an insult of Holy Scriptures of Hindus and these ideal characters. This is trampling religious sentiments of Hindus; therefore, the Cetificate issued to the film for release should be cancelled or it should be released after changing its objectionable name is our demand; else strong agitations will be held, in lawful manner, against the film.

Director agrees to give a footnote that the film is not related to ‘Satyawan and Savitri’

Mr. Shivaji Vatkar of HJS called up Director Sarvesh Parab and demanded to change the title of the film telling him that keeping the title of the film as ‘Satyawan-Savitri’, religious sentiments of Hindus have been hurt; besides, women have been insulted in the film by showing their immoral relations. Mr. Parab agreed to everything and said that the film is releasing today. If he was told at least a week before, he could have done something. If the title of the film is changed now, Censor Board will have to be approached again for issue of new certificate. He requested to find a solution to the problem when Mr. Vatkar said that he should first render open and unconditional apology to all women and Hindus for hurting their religious sentiments. It can be shown in the beginning of the film with the help of slides or footnote that the title of the film has no relation with the revered characters of ‘Satyawan – Savitri’ from Hindu Puaranas. Apology may be rendered in the advertisements published in newspapers and even by issue of a circular; else agitation will be staged against the film. Mr. Parab has promised to satisfy all demands made by HJS by sending email. He was told that till such action was not taken, Hindus would continue to oppose the film.
