HJS to start statewide agitation against anti-Hindu play

Mumbai: Agitation started by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) against the Marathi play ‘Vastra-haran’ for making mockery of our holy epic Mahabharat and revered characters in the epic, will be intensified and taken to all over the State. This announcement was made by Shri. Ramesh Shinde, the spokesperson of HJS for the State of Maharashtra.

Time and again, HJS has lodged complaints against Marathi plays causing damage to our Dharma with the Sensor Board for Marathi plays, Cultural Ministry of the State and Mumbai police. For the past 4 years, HJS has been agitating in a very peaceful and legal manner against shows of such Marathi plays. Many members of audience have also given their reactions to the plays as the plays hurt their feelings. But the Sensor Board has taken no action and the plays are going on.

Shri. Macchindra Kambali, the producer of the play behaved very badly with the members of HJS at many places where the demonstrations were held. The manager of the play even threatened to the HJS members that they would be burnt alive. A case has also been filed against the management of the play in this regard. There are many objectionable incidents in the play making mockery of our deities and characters in Mahabharat like Arjun, Draupadi, Dhrutrashtra etc.

Hindus consider Mahabharata as a holy book. Mockery of characters in this book amount to mockery of Hindu Dharma and is a serious offense under the section 295 (A) of IPC. Shows of this Play will be staged in various parts of Maharashtra from 25th January. It has therefore, been decided to intensify the campaign against the play all over the State.
