Mumbai : On the occasion of 15th August, the Independence Day, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) undertook a drive to prevent abuse of the National Flag. The drive received spontaneous response from the citizens.
‘National Flags Honour Box’ was kept at 49 places, public and residential, in different parts of Mumbai. 2600 handbills on ‘Honour the National Flag’ were distributed amongst citizens; awareness on the subject was created in 75 shops. At 72 places, awareness was created through posters, hoardings in Mumbai.
At New Mumbai, people were enlightened on prevention of abuse of National Flags with the help of ‘Mega phones’ for 17 hours, distributing 1500 handbills, display of 14 posters and 5 flex boards. At 11 places, ‘honour boxes’ were kept to collect National Flags. 150 activists from Mumbai and New Mumbai took part in this drive. The enlightened citizens deposited the National Flags in these boxes.
Highlights
- ‘M. Clarke Beauty Parlour’ had kept plastic National Flags on sale. After HJS activists explained the subject to them, the sale was stopped.
- At Saraswati Vidyalaya, importance of maintaining honour of National Flags was explained. Mr. Zuleja, the Principal of the school said, “We did not know about National Flag so much in detail. Now, we will not give small paper Flags to students for display on their uniform after flag-hoisting.”
- Representation given to shopkeepers from Girgaum on maintaining honour of National Flag was displayed by them in their shops for people to read.
- Mr. Sudhakar Ghagare, senior Police Inspector at N. M. Joshi Marg Police Station assigned few policemen to collect flags when he was given a representation by HJS activists.
- HJS activists had given such representation to Mr. Sagar Naik, the Mayor of New Mumbai. He took a serious note of the representation and immediately issued a circular on the subject.
