Sand City in California launched its day with Hindu prayers

USA : Sand City Council in California (USA), incorporated in 1960, launched its day with Hindu mantras on August 21 evening for the first time in its existence, containing verses from world’s oldest existing scripture, informed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed while talking to TOI on Wednesday. He said they delivered the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before the City Council.

After Sanskrit delivery, he said he then read the English translation of the prayer. Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism , said he recited ‘shaloka’s’ from Rig-Veda besides lines from Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita .

He said he also sprinkled few drops of water from river Ganga, considered holy by Hindus, around the podium before the prayer. He said Mayor David K. Pendergrass ,council member Craig Hubler were among others who were present on the occasion . "It was a historic moment of pride for the community when the prayers from ancient Sanskrit scriptures were being read in this great hall of democracy of Sand City", said he.

He said Sand City which was located on Monterey Bay shores, claims to be "a green conscious and artistic community that lives, works and plays by the sea.
