Goa : Court releases Ganesh idols from Police custody to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti

Ganesh idols which are handed over to HJS by JMFC for immersion

Margao (Goa) : In an order passed by The Judicial Magistrate, First Class, at Margao, the Court released Ganesh idols seized by the Police at Margao to Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS). This information was given by Dr. Manoj Solanki, state convenor of HJS in a press conference held at Margao today. Also present for press conference were Advt. T. Nagesh of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad and Mr. Prabhudesai of Sanatan Sanstha.

It may be recalled that some Ganesh idols were found dumped by roadside at Margao on 1st April 2012 which were reported to Margao Police station. Margao Town Police Station had lodged a complaint against unknown culprits u/s 295 of Indian Penal Code. Altogether 22 Ganesh idols were seized by police out of which some were broken and rest were intact. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti had then written to Margao Police station on 4th April 2012 for handing over the clay Idols of Lord Ganesha for immersion according to Hindu Religious and traditional rituals at which the HJS was instructed to approach the court and take possession.  The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti filed an application in the court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class at Margao through its State Convener Dr. Manoj Solanki for handing over the clay Idols of Lord Ganesha for immersion under Section 457 of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. The HJS in its application stated that once the idols are damaged it is denigration of the deity. Once the idols are damaged there is no active God principle in the idols and according to the spiritual science they have to be immediately immersed. Delaying immersion amounts to further denigration and hurting of religious sentiments of Hindus and this amounts to sin.

Advocate T. Nagesh of the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad represented the HJS and argued the matter on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. South Goa Superintendent of Police Mr Allen D’Sa and Margao Town Police Inspector Mr Sudesh Naik extended cooperation to the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in this matter. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti took possession of the idols from Margao Town Police. The HJS has planned the immersion of idols through a procession. The immersion procession will begin from Sree Hari Mandir, Malbat at 4 pm and proceed to Dharmapur Navelim through the Margao city. Immersion will be done in the river near Ex-MLA Manu Fernandes’ residence. The HJS appeals to Hindu Organisations and Hindu individuals to participate in the immersion and fulfill their religious duty on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi and invoke His blessings.
