Chiplun (Maharashtra) : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has been undertaking a drive on the occasion of Ganesh Festival for the past 8 years for prevention of malpractices taking place in celebration of this festival. Under this drive, HJS had displayed hoardings enlightening people on the subject. On 30th September, one of such hoardings displayed near Shri Ves Maruti Mandir was torn by unknown miscreants and was thrown away at far distance. The frame of the hoarding was also damaged. Another such hoarding was found damaged on the night of 1st October displayed near central bus- stand in the city. Devout Hindus are enraged with these incidents.

All the hoardings were put up after taking due permission of the Town Council.  On the hoarding displayed near Shri Ves Maruti Mandir, it was written that ‘To prevent malpractices like forced collection of donations during ‘Ganeshotsava’, advertisements of ‘Gutkha’, holding programs like orchestra, beauty contests; gambling, eve-teasing etc.  is also abiding by Dharma’. Similar matter was displayed even on the hoarding near central ST stand.
