Panvel (Maharashtra) : Billions of Hindus mostly celebrate Diwali festival as a means of pleasure, they do not try to get spiritual benefit of this festival. More importance is given to fireworks, bursting of crackers during this festival, therefore, the noise and air pollution caused due to crackers result in ill health. Instances of crackers setting things on fire leading to huge losses or death due to burning etc. occur every year; therefore, in the present times when inflation is so high, waste of black money spent in fireworks should be avoided. The above appeal was made by Mr. Balwant Pathak of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) during a press conference held at ‘Shrikrushna Bharati’ Hall in Panvel.

Mr. Pathak said further that during auspicious festival like Diwali, Hindus worship Goddess Lakshmi at home and outside burst ‘Lakshmi Bars’, crackers with pictures of Goddess Lakshmi, which shreds Deity’s picture into pieces. Pictures of great national heroes are also printed on crackers. Hindus need to think whether they are doing the right thing. Mr. Pathak said that HJS has been fighting against such malpractices for the past 8 years.

Smt. Jayashree Bhalerao of Sanatan Sanstha explained the spiritual importance of days during Diwali festival like Dhana-Trayodashi, Yama Deep Daan, Narak Chaturdashi, Lakshmi-pujan, Bali Pratipada etc. and giving examples explained the implied meanings of Deepavali. Information about greetings card, gift sets, ‘utane’ etc. made by Sanatan Sanstha for ‘Dharma-prasar’ was also given on the occasion.
