Goa : President of State Women’s Commission recommends Govt to give self-defence training for girls

Girls should get self-defence training in schools  – Vidya Gawade, the President of State Women’s Commission to recommend the State Govt.

Panaji : Vidya Gawade, the President of State Women’s Commission stated that she would recommend the Government to introduce self-defence training to girl students at the school level. The ‘Goa State Women’s Commission’ handles cases related to the oppression of women and other such issues. (Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been emphasising the importance of self-defence for more than the last 18 years and conducting self-defence classes also. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

Self-defence demos were presented during the meeting

The ‘Goa State Women’s Commission’s President Vidya Gawade said further that the matter of imparting self-defence training to girls from schools through the Womens’ Commission was earlier raised, but it took a back-seat as schools were closed down due to the Corona pandemic. Recently, in a meeting held with the Union Minister of Women’s Commissions in other States, Mrs Smriti Irani, a suggestion was given on self-defence training to girls. It will be additional work for the Women’s Commission if self-defence training was imparted to girls through them, but it would be more convenient to impart such training as a part of curriculums of schools and under the subject of physical training. Five basic methods of self-defence can be taught under such a scheme and girls would easily learn these 5 methods of self-defence since it is a compulsory subject and a part of the curriculum.
