Sambhajinagar : Earlier, Maharashtra Government had issued an order granting permission to make Shri Ganesh idols from paper pulp; but Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) brought it to the notice of the ‘Green Tribunal’ that such Ganesh idols would pollute water when immersed in river, sea or any flowing water. Thereafter, the Tribunal brought indefinite stay on Maharashtra Government’s orders. The order of Tribunal is applicable all over India; therefore, a ban should be imposed immediately on manufacturing and sale of Shri Ganesh idols made with paper pulp and criminal cases should be filed against the manufacturers and sellers of such idols, was the demand made by H. H. (Adv.) Suresh Kulkarni of High Court and the founder member of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad through a memorandum submitted to the Police Commissioner here. (Why such demand has to be made? The Government is expected to take action on its own! – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

It has been stated in the memorandum that Maharashtra Government issued an order granting permission for making Ganesh idols from paper pulp only to please progressive factions. The science of making Ganesh idols has been explained in detail in ‘Skanda Purana’. Also, while consecrating Ganesh idols either at home or in public places, the devotees strongly feel that the Deity has actually come. The State Government didn’t conduct any tests to check whether Ganapati idols made from paper pulp cause pollution and the order was issued without consulting anyone from the field. The State Government’s order has been stayed by the Green Tribunal for an indefinite period; therefore, it is now illegal to make, sell and even promote the use of idols made of paper pulp and an immediate ban should be imposed on the sale of Ganesh idols made of paper pulp. Moreover, criminal cases should be filed against the manufacturers, sellers, and shopkeepers keeping such idols on sale. Even Amazon which is making and selling such idols should be booked under the law.
