Mumbai : Mumbai Municipal Corporation has granted two months extension to ‘Mandir Mahasangh’

Februray 17,2013

Mumbai : Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has granted two months extension, till 22nd April, for temples to submit objections, proofs etc. ‘Mandir Ani Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh’ submitted representations to the Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, President of Standing Committee, leaders of the House, leaders of the Opposition, all party group-leaders and followed up the matter. It was therefore, discussed in Standing Committee  and the Municipal Commissioner granted extension of two months to temples for completing necessary paper work. Trustees of temple thanked all of them on behalf of ‘Mandir Mahasangh’.

Responses have been received by ‘Mahasangh’ from trustees of temples all over Mumbai wherein it is said, “Religious places should be protected applying the benchmark of 2006; if the Government can extend protection to hutments, why not for temples? Still 356 temples have not received notice. Objections have been sent by only 178 temples. Municipal Corporation should take temples into confidence and remove the atmosphere of confusion and tension. If temples are provided protection, it will help to develop harmony between BMC and temple management.’ Dr. Uday Dhuri, the President of ‘Mahasangh’ and Shri. Ramesh Sanil, its Vice President have also thanked officers in BMC and to elected representatives. They have made a demand that before election, it was unanimously decided by MLAs of all parties in the Assembly that religious places should not be demolished and the Government had accepted this stand; therefore, the same stand should be adopted even now.

Dr. Uday Dhuri can be contacted on 9552578861 in case of any problems in obtaining necessary papers related to temples.

Mumbai : Hindus protest against demolition of religious structures treating them as unauthorized

January 29, 2013

Extend the time given to temple-managements for completion of paper-work ! – Maharashtra Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh

Mumbai : Office-bearers of all temples under ‘Mandir Mahasangha’, pro-Hindu organizations and religious institutes have decided to oppose the anti-Dharma stance of the Government by mobilizing people’s movement against the decision of the Government of demolishing unauthorized religious structures. Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) should consider religious sentiments of devotees and provide protection to ancient temples where Hindus go for worship and which are religious centres of Hindus. The above demand has been made by Maharashtra Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh to the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner. The representation was accepted by Dy. Commissioner, Sudhir Naik.

Representation was also submitted to Mayor, Mr. Sunil Prabhu and the President of Standing Committee, Mr. Rahul Shevale. Dr. Uday Dhuri, the President of ‘Mahasangh’ and its Vice President, Mr. Ramesh Sanil were present on the occasion.

Dr. Dhuri said, “Out of 534 religious structures declared as unauthorized by MMC, it has been decided to demolish 326 religious structures; among which, more than 270 are Hindu temples. Although the Government is expected to follow Supreme Court’s orders, it should also consider religious sentiments of Hindus. While taking action against unauthorized temples, action should not be taken only for absence of necessary papers, care should be taken of ancient and ‘sattvik’ temples; besides, such unauthorized structures belonging to minority community should not be treated differently under pressure. Before elections of MMC, MLAs from all parties had unanimously decided that religious structures in Mumbai would not be demolished. The Government had also accepted that stand; so the same stand should be taken even now, is our demand.”

‘Why separate law for temples when protection is given to unauthorized slums ?’

January 10,2013

Mumbai : Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to demolish 326 religious structures out of 534 unauthorized religious structures declared by it and its list has been published in newspapers. Out of the religious structures which have been decided to be demolished, more than 270 are Hindu temples. Although the Government has to follow directions of  the Supreme Court, it has to pay respect to the religious sentiments of people. The temples should not be declared as unauthorized due to lack proper papers while taking action and care should be taken to protect the ancient ‘Sattvik’ temples. The Government should also not fall prey to pressure tactics used by the minorities and take different view about their prayer houses. The above firm demand has been made by Dr. Uday Dhuri, the President of ‘Maharashtra Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangha’ with the BMC administration, Mumbai Mayor and Maharashtra Government. He stated that a meeting would be held by ‘Mandir Mahasangh’ of office bearers of temples, other pro-Hindu activists and religious organizations to oppose the stand taken by the Government to demolish all temples as also to decide about further course of action like starting people’s movement etc.

If slums can be made authorized, why not temples?

The Government is ready to regularize unauthorized slums constructed till the year 2000, then why injustice is being made to only temples which are places of worship of millions of Hindus? Does the Government want to claim that other than temples, there is no unauthorized structure in Mumbai? If the Government is citing the decision of Supreme Court, it may be pointed out here that the Government had passed a special Act to regularize unauthorized constructions in Ulhasnagar. On the same lines, temples can be given protection. Instead of demolishing them, the Government can option for an alternative like shifting them. It was unanimously decided in a meeting of all party MLAs held before the elections of BMC that religious structures in Mumbai would not be demolished and it was accepted by the Government. We demand that the same stand should be taken even now.

Temples facing such injustice can contact ‘Mandir Mahasangh’

Management of all such temples which have been declared as unauthorized and included in the demolition list, may separately register their protest to BMC administration within 30 days (till 28th January 2013) along with necessary proofs.

If BMC administration is taking willful stand despite submitting necessary proofs of temples’ authorized nature, temple management and devotees can contact 9552578861. The above appeal has been made by the ‘Mandir Mahasangh’.
