The former PM’s daughter Rosemary Odinga lost her vision in 2017 after optic nerve damage. After the vision problem, she received treatment in South Africa, Israel, and China but all the treatment did not prove to be a success, said a report on The Hindu.
Later, Raila Odinga learned about Kerala’s Ayurvedic tradition from his friend.
In 2019, Rosemary Odinga started her treatment at Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre at Koothattukulam. She received treatment for a month in Kerala and returned home. She continued her medication at home. After continued treatment and checkups, Rosemary Odinga got back her vision, as per a statement from the hospital.
She is expected to stay in the hospital for follow-up treatment for the next three weeks.
The chief physician Narayanan Namboodiri, who guided the treatment said, the former Kenyan PM’s visit has reiterated the pride and possibilities of Ayurvedic treatment.
Ayurveda is an alternative medical system to the allopathy medical system. Ayurveda, which is practiced mainly in India, has its roots in the past. The Ayurveda therapies involve herbal medicines, spa, concoction, diets, meditation, yoga, laxatives, and massages. However, Ayurveda has a downside since it is reportedly pseudoscientific.
