139th death anniversary of first revolutionary Vasudev Balwant Phadke observed at Shirdhon (District Raigad)

Panvel : 17th February was the 139th death anniversary of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, the first revolutionary. A procession with a Krantijyoti was held at his birthplace Shirdhon to observe his death anniversary. The procession started from the Hutatma Smarak in Krantijyot village and ended at the ‘Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Smriti Mandir’. Naib Subedar Shri. Bharat Karnekar (an Indian Army, and a son of Shirdhon village) and Shri. Sujit Hatmode (from Palaspe) lit the Krantijyot. The event was organized by Mandar Jog and Krantijyot Mandal, Shirdhon. Every year the Krantijyot is brought to various places sanctified by the steps of revolutionaries. This year, in view of the coronavirus pandemic, the procession was organized from the Martyrs’ Memorial in the village itself.

To commemorate the death anniversary of Vasudev Balwant Phadke, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti organized a poster presentation. The posters depicted the historic heroics and the patriotism of numerous revolutionaries. This display awakened the memories of the revolutionaries, who sacrificed everything for the country, in the minds of the attendees.

This display was possible due to the whole hearted cooperation of devout Hindu Shri. Vinayak Wakadikar, as well as Shri. Macchindra Pawar and other well-wishers from the area.
