Kumbh Mela : Emergency like situation in Kumbh city due to heavy rains and stormy winds

Magh Shuklapaksha 7, Kaliyug Varsha 5114

Prayagaraj (UP) : After the Holy bath of Vasant Panchami on 15th February was over, heavy rains accompanied by stormy winds started lashing Kumbh city from 2.00 p.m. onwards. Rains are witnessed every year in Prayagaraj on the day of Vasant Panchami. But the rains fallen yesterday were accompanied by the storm. Since the rains continue to fall on a second successive day, the pandals of Akhadas, Shankaracharya and sects were uprooted. Since the rain water entered most of the pandals, devotees in Kumbh city had to face times of calamity.

Since Kumbh city is erected on the banks of river Ganga, the flow of river-current started gradually in the Kumbh city. Traffic was thrown out of gear due to water-logging at various places. Mud and garbage have spread all over the place. Devotees started departing from Kumbh city since morning. Many Akhadas and sects have also started to leave Kumbh city. In fact, another Holy bath is due on 25th March. Still, Kumbh Mela is as good as over due to heavy rains.

Administration missing in the emergency situation

At present, the power supply in the entire Kumbh Mela has gone off. There is no water in the taps. The administration employees are not to be seen anywhere. No instructions are being received from the administration. Everyone wishing to depart from Kumbh city along with the luggage has to face a lot of obstacles. The big arches with the height of 25-30 feet have collapsed. Nobody from the administration is available to lift and move them away. Most of the arches have fallen on the power lines. Therefore, there is a possibility of a serious accident. In spite of this, the Mela administration has remained indolent.
