Kumbh Mela : Increase in level of water in river Ganga, in Kumbh city; Army called !

Prayagaraj (UP) : Due to increase in the level of water in river Ganga, in Kumbh city during the night of 18th February, a new current was formed. This current started flowing very speedily, and as a result, smaller pandals in Kumbh city started submerging under water. Therefore, an emergency situation was experienced in Sector 10 in the night. In order to bring the situation under control, army was called for help.

Due to this emergency situation, front portion of the pontoon bridge submerged in the water. This had a created scare among citizens. In order to bring situation under control, army was called for help late in the night. Due to diversion in the current of water, the sand started slipping, and pandals also submerged under water. Army started making efforts to ensure that the current, which was getting wider does not reach up to the Ashram of Jyotishpithadhishwar Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalanand Saraswati, which was a short distance away. The surrounding pandals were urgently vacated, and the residents of Kumbh city were shifted to safe places. Army tried since morning to erect a barrier on newly formed current so as to make it narrow.
