Gondwad (Dist. Belgaum), 6th April – Hindus’ temples were attacked during the Mughal regime. Even recently, i. e. after independence, temples have been attacked. There have been incidents of idol-breaking in Andhra Pradesh and theft of idols even in Goa. Hindus temples are the source of divine energy. Hindus come together through the medium of temples and they get the strength to work for the protection of Dharma. It is, therefore, very important that the temples should always be secure, stated Mr Kiran Duse, the Kolhapur District coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) while addressing a program held at Kalbhairav Devasthan to create awareness about the fight started by the devotees for reclaiming temple land.

Mr Kiran Duse said further, “I congratulate the local youth for this fight. This fight will definitely be successful. God will never forgive those who try to grab temple land. A toilet was built on ‘Manikarnika Kunda’ in Sri Mahalakshmi Mandir of Kolhapur. HJS had started a movement against it and now, the administration has opened the ‘kunda’ for devotees. It is the success of HJS and HJS has undertaken this drive, through different media,  for protection of temples all over the country.”

What is the background of this issue !

In the year 1950, the then Sangli Sansthan had given 27 acres of the land of Kalbhairav Devasthan to 6 persons for cultivating. The income earned out of it was used to hold religious programs in the temple. Later, those 6 families grabbed the lands and transferred them in their names. Once, the Devasthan asked some of the families for the land required for building a road, they refused. The devotees, therefore, collected more information on this matter, and then it was realised that the lands were grabbed by the families. During the fight to get back the land, the devotees were brutally attacked a few times, but they continued the fight due to their devotion to Kalbhairav. Finally, on 3rd April 2022, out of the 6 families, two families declared in front of all the local residents that they would be returning the land to the Devasthan.
