Margaon : The additional District Collector of Goa had issued orders based on the verdict passed by the Goa Bench of Mumbai High Court against use of loudspeakers on mosques; even then, all mosques in Goa have been using loudspeakers for ‘azaan’ in an unauthorised manner. The Government should take stringent action against the unauthorised loudspeakers fitted over mosques and even against those attacking Ram Navami processions all over the country. The above demands were made through two separate memorandums by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) with the District Collector of South Goa, through its delegation, comprising of Mr Prasad Shinkare, Mr Satyavijay Naik, Mr Sudhakar Agalave, advocate Sanjay Chodankar, and Mr Mahesh Pai Kane.

‘Azaan’ hooted from loudspeakers on mosques is creating noise pollution and fixing loudspeakers on mosques in an unauthorised manner cannot be considered a religious tradition. If similar incidents occur in the State with the involvement of followers of other religions, it can lead to a crisis in the State. This is what is mentioned in the memorandum submitted in connection with unauthorised loudspeakers. In another memorandum, it has been stated that processions were taken out all over India including Goa on the occasion of Shriram Navami which was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm on 10th of April 2022, but these processions were attacked and stones were pelted at them in many States including Vasco in Goa. The incidents of violent attacks with swords and stone pelting, setting houses and vehicles on fire, and destruction of public property are a matter of grave concern. These attacks carried out on the day of Shriram Navami were a pre-planned conspiracy since similar incidents took place at so many places at the same time. Who is behind such attacks ? Why religious festivals are targeted ? An in-depth inquiry needs to be undertaken at the national level, into all these incidents. A copy of the memorandum demanding strict action against the attackers on the Ram Navami processions has been forwarded even to the Central Home Minister while a copy of the memorandum demanding action against unauthorised loudspeakers on mosques has been sent to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Goa State Pollution Control Board.
