Bengaluru (Karnataka) : On 14th April,a comical short-play in Kannada, titled ‘Srikrushna Sandhan’ was to be staged at Bengaluru. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), however, forced the organizers to cancel the show as there was denigration of Srikrushna. Initially, the organizers were not ready to cancel the show; but on warning to stage agitations and after pro-Hindu activists registered their protest for this play by calling the organizers on their phone, the show was cancelled.

1. Shri. Chetan Harihar, a seeker from Mangaluru first came to know about staging of this play. He informed seekers from Bengaluru about the same. Those seekers contacted the organizers over phone when they told the seekers that there was no denigration of Deities in the play and advised them to first watch the play. They also rudely advised seekers that it was not right to say anything before the show was staged.

2. Later, Shri. Chandru Moger, a convener of HJS and a local pro-Hindu activist watched the play when they realized that there was denigration of Deities. Given below are few denigrating sentences and scenes from the said play.

A. Srikrushna was addressed as A Krushna, B Krushna, ‘Istree’ Krushna.

B. Person playing the character of Srikrushna behaved indecently with Draupadi.

C. As Rukmini was shown going in the room, Srikrushna says ‘I will also come to sleep’.

D. During rehearsal, the Director of the play advised an actor performing the role of Srikrushna not to touch Rukmini; else he would forget his dialogues.

All the above scenes were pointed out to the organizers of the play; but they dismissed the claim.

HJS activists, therefore, informed the sponsors of the play about denigration who said to them that they would withdraw the sponsorship. A complaint was also lodged with the police station when members of Sriram Sena accompanied the seekers to the police station. The matter was spread through emails and ‘Jago’ sms chain.

Police called up the organizers and advised them about not staging a play that would hurt religious sentiments of people. The organizers of the play went to the police station and claimed that there was no denigration; but police once again advised them not to stage play that would create law and order problems.

When the message was spread through ‘Jago’, devout Hindus called up the organizers and condemning the organizers, they registered their protest. Consequently, the organizers declared that the show of the play was being cancelled.

On the day, the play was to be staged, police force was deployed outside the theatre. The viewers coming to the theatre to watch the play, were sent back by the police informing them that the show was postponed. The night-shows of the play were also cancelled. HJS activists informed that with the grace of Srikrushna, show of such anti-Dharma play was cancelled.
