The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has agreed to the Uttar Pradesh seer’s demand and has shifted an image of Lord Krishna inside the Taj Mahal. The seer had demanded the photo of Radha-Krishna be relocated as the portrait was reportedly placed near a washroom.
Following the protest staged by Orai seer Matsyendra Goswami, ASI has shifted the image away from the washroom region.
According to ASI sources, the seer had recently visited the Taj Mahal and objected to the placement of the image of Lord Krishna, which, according to him, was too close to the toilet. India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), which maintains the picture gallery, was asked to make the necessary changes.
Now, the entire block of images containing Lord Krishna’s pictures has been shifted to the other end of the gallery, while the view of the toilet has been hidden with a fibreglass sheet.
A senior ASI official told India Today that about 40 images from the gallery, which had become old and worn out, were being replaced and now a display containing a list of India’s World Heritage Monuments will be placed where Lord Krishna’s picture used to be.
ASI Agra Superintendant RK Patel said that this gallery had been put up by ITDC two decades back and a lot of images in the gallery had become worn out with time.
Speaking on this dispute, Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber secretary Vishal Sharma said that by raising such frivolous disputes regarding the Taj Mahal, one is spoiling the image of India, projecting ourselves as an intolerant and communal society.
“This will result in irreparable damage to the tourism industry, which is already suffering from the drastic effects of the Covid pandemic,” he said.
Sharma demanded that people trying to raise such ‘unnecessary disputes’ regarding the Taj Mahal should be booked for trying to disturb peace and harmony.
