Mumbai : Zee Marathi channel will be telecasting Marathi play ‘Vastraharan’ wherein there is mockery of Hindu scriptures and great revered Hindu personalities. The play will be telecast on 28th April, Sunday on this channel. Hindu Dharma, Saints, Holy Scriptures have been ridiculed in this play. Shri. Satish Kocharekar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has therefore, made an appeal to Zee Marathi channel through a letter to cancel telecast of this play.
The play produced under the banner of ‘Bhadrakali Productions’, a scene of ‘Vastraharan’ from the holy scripture of Hindus viz. ‘Mahabharata’ has been depicted. While showing this, a liquor shop has been referred to as ‘Tukarama cha Adda’. Instead of ‘bow and arrow’, Arjun has been given a tin- chair whereas the role of virtuous, chaste Draupadi is performed by a woman supposed to be enacting in ‘Tamasha’. (Will the producer dare to make mockery of objects of worship of Muslims or Christians? Anyone and everyone malign Hindus’ seats of worship since Hindus are tolerant. How long are Hindus going to allow such insult? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) Other characters in the play also have dialogues slighting seats of worship of Hindus. It is denigrating Hindus’ Holy Scriptures like ‘Mahabharata’ and great, revered Hindu personalities.
HJS had earlier appealed to the Censor Board for plays to stop such denigration; many devout Hindus had staged demonstrations outside theatres where the show of this play was to be staged. As a result, the play became controversial. HJS has demanded through the letter that the said play should not, therefore, be telecast by the channel as it hurts religious sentiments of Hindus and insults Hindu Dharma.
