Ponda (Goa) : Through an order passed by Mumbai High Court’s Goa Bench, illegal cow-slaughtering taking place at a factory in Goa has been banned; but paying total disregard to this order, cows and cattle are being slaughtered. The above compliant was made by Shri. Amrut Singh on 16th May with Ponda Police Station; but Ponda police have refused to register even FIR. If police don’t register the complaint, it is feared that evidence of illegal slaughtering of cows would be destroyed.

Shri. Amrut Singh lodged a complaint with Ponda police on 16th May at 11.00 a.m. He was told that the regular police inspector was on leave and the substitute working in his place gave an excuse of exigency of work, refusing to register his complaint. (Presently, issue of illegal slaughtering of cattle is focus of attention in Goa. High Court has also taken note of the issue and cornered the Government. Even then, police inspector refused to register a complaint. Will the Chief Minister of Goa, Mr. Parrikar, who is looking after Home Department also, look in the matter and find out which was the other pressing matter that the police inspector was busy with? – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) Similar stance was taken by even the other police officers present in the police station.

Shri. Amrut Singh and his colleague John Fernandes, animal-lovers, went to the police station and waited from 11.00 a.m. till late evening for filing FIR; but Ponda police have only taken down their complaint. As stated by animal-lover Shri. Amrut Singh, on 14th May, he along with few citizens, went to check on the cattle kept with Goa Meat Factory. They observed that the condition of the cattle was very pathetic. As the cattle were kept in inadequate place, they were fighting with each other. When Shri. Singh and other citizens came out of the factory, they found skulls, bones, skeletons and flesh of cattle lying all over the place. On informing the police, 4 persons were taken into custody and released on the following day. Since cattle are illegally slaughtered inside the factory, it is necessary to find out the real culprits. It is also necessary to conduct forensic tests of flesh, skulls, bones etc. found scattered everywhere. Such activities are against clause 4 and 10 of Goa Animal Protection Act, 1995’ so also against law banning cow-slaughter prevailing in Goa, Daman and Diu. These activities have also hurt religious sentiments of Hindus under Section 295 of Indian Penal Code. It is therefore, necessary to file a case in the matter and conduct inquiry.

Another ‘Gou-Premi’ has lodged a complaint with Ponda police station about illegal slaughtering of cow taking place behind the factory !

Another animal-lover, Shri. Suchendra Agni has also lodged a complaint with Ponda Police Station against Goa Meat Factory; but police did not file  a case even after this complaint. It has been stated in the said complaint that when he heard about illegal cow-slaughter taking place at Goa Meat Factory, he went there to get it confirmed. He observed a heap of cattle’s bones, flesh, heels and horns which confirmed illegal slaughtering of cows. Police should do ‘Panchnama’ and undertake chemical tests of cattle’s skeletons. Prima facie, all the killed cattle seem to be under age. The concerned persons involved in illegal slaughtering should be found. These killings are carried out in open place and have hurt his religious sentiments. Basically, killing of cattle in open space is a crime. ; therefore, case should be filed and detailed investigations should be undertaken.
