Hussain’s painting case: investigations to be transferred

New Delhi:  A Delhi court has transferred from the Connaught Place police station to Crime Branch of Delhi Police the probe in a complaint against noted painter M F Hussain for allegedly portraying Hindu gods and godesses in an indecent manner.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau has directed handing over the investigation in the case to the Cyber Offences Wing of Crime Branch holding that "further investigation should be handled by the specialized Cell dealing with cyber offences." Appearing before the court yesterday, Anand Mohan, DCP, New Delhi, said that allegations involved in the complaint have already been investigated but there were certain aspects relating to the alleged auction of the objectionable works of the accused on a website which would require probe by the specialized cell.

The court also accepted his request to waive the cost imposed on him for his earlier non-appearance despite summons requiring him to appear on February 19 for failing to file final investigation report in the case. The court had on February 7 pulled up the Delhi Police for "dragging their feet" on investigating the complaint. The court was infuriated when a police officer sought more time to file the investigation report, which was to be submitted that day.
