Vidyadhiraj Hall, Shri Ramnathi Devsthan, Goa : We were corresponding with Congress Government for the past six years for stopping cow-slaughter, which is common in Goa; but the Chief Minister did not give us time even once to listen to us. That time BJP was an Opposition party and its leader, Manohar Parrikar gave us many promises. Now, when BJP has been elected to power, they too have started turning back to us. BJP has left behind ‘Hinduttva’ even in Goa, was the concern expressed by Shri. Hanumant Parab, the President of ‘Gou-vansh Raksha Abhiyan, Goa’ while putting forth his bitter experiences while undertaking activities related to protection of cows.
Shri. Hanumant Parab, the President of ‘Gou-vansh Raksha Abhiyan, Goa’
Shri. Hanumant Parab said,
1. ‘Gou-rakshaks (protectors of cows)’ have had to fight for catching vehicles transporting cows; but the Government is not ready to take any responsibility. Despite the verdict passed by High Court, funds are not provided for fodder; therefore, ‘Gou-rakshaks’ are taking care of such cows/cattle on their own.
2. In 2006, BJP had organized a meeting at national level on the issue of protection of cows where instead of allowing Saints to speak, BJP leaders only kept on talking and thus insulted Saints.
3. During the regime of NDA, a Bill imposing ban on cow-slaughter was presented; but it was not passed due to objection raised by Mamata Banerjee.
4. Now, BJP is ruling Goa but the Government and police are repressing ‘Gou-rakshaks’.
5. Four ‘Gou-rakshaks’ caught hold of a truck transporting cows and cattle risking their life and got case registered against the concerned. A mob of 400 Fanatics, however, gathered at the police station when one Congress MLA called up the police station and pressurized them for not taking any action against the Fanatics.
6. Let us, therefore, form a policy of electing candidates in the forthcoming elections who are patrons of cows if activities related to protection of cows are to be undertaken.
