Maharashtra : Devout Hindu woman from Dahanu foils conversion ploy of Christian missionaries

Thane : Religious conversion is rampant in the hard to access Adivasi majority areas of Dahanu, Talasari, Javhar and Vikramgad in Palghar District, Maharashtra. Taking undue advantage of poor and illiterate Adivasis, they are being converted with various baits. A devout Hindu woman foiled a missionary effort of conversion with the help of villagers. The Police have arrested 4 missionaries after a complaint was registered in the Police station.

1. On 5th August, four Christian missionaries entered the said woman’s household in Saravli, Talaopada near Dahanu and tried to convince her by saying if she accepted Christianity then all her sicknesses would disappear. They told her not to abide by her Dharma. They tried to give her money while forcing her to convert. That woman filed a complaint against them in the Dahanu Police station with the help of villagers.

2. Thereafter the local villagers along with some Hindu activists gathered there and they grilled the missionaries

3. On the basis of the complaint filed by the said woman the Police filed a case under Sections 153, 295, 448, 34 and arrested D Baila, Maryama T Philips, Paramjeet alias Pinki Sharma Kaur, and Parshuram Dharma Dhingada.

4. Earlier also some people were converted in the Adivasi areas in Palghar District. As a result disputes were very common between converts and Hindus during festivals, the locals said. Villagers also demanded that the Police and the Administration find a solution to stop religious conversions.
