Date: 16th July 2013

To,
    Shri. Manohar Parrikar,
    H’ble Chief minister,
    Government of Goa.

Sub : Consider the death of 20 year old in Casino
as God’s message and do away with Casinos in Goa.

Dear Shri Manohar Parrikar ji,

You have continued with Casinos in Goa on the grounds of alternative yearly revenue of Rupees 150 crores in absence of mining revenue. The money obtained from Casinos is not income from righteousness source in any religion and such money does not cause any progress but only brings misery is the law of righteousness. There is a dictum in Hindu Dharma Dharmo Rakshita Rakshit (Means if we protect Dharma (righteousness) then Dharma protects us. If politicians are righteous then the state will be prosperous and this act of Casinos is just contradictory.

The recent drowning death of Dhanush Sai an engineering student and tourist from Andhra Pradesh in Carnival Casino on 13th July is an indicator from God. You may heed it if you desire to. Do you feel morally responsible for his death? Secondly one needs to introspect that in the bargain for revenue the what type of sanskaars are we making on our youth who are the future responsible citizens of the state? The Casino culture causes the worst form of corruption which is moral and easy money from Casinos could devastate the entire society.

You are an IIT graduate with exceptional intelligence and potential and we expect and wish that you heed this God’s message and do away with Casinos in Goa. This will only invoke God’s blessings in making Goa a prosperous state.

Yours faithfully,
Dr. Manoj Solanki, State Convenor,
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti,

CM seeks action against casino after youth fell from deck

Business Standard Report

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today recommended stringent action against the management of an off-shore casino, whose alleged negligence resulted in the death of a 20-year-old engineering student.

"I have told police to make casino management responsible for the death of the student," Parrikar told reporters here.

Police have begun investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of Shiv Dhanush Reddy, who hailed from Hyderabad, on Saturday, after he fell off the deck of the casino.

Reddy was on the off shore vessel 'Casino Carnival' when he reportedly slipped from the second deck and drowned in Mandovi river.

Section 336 of IPC, dealing with endangering human life, has already been imposed on the officials of casino, Parrikar said.

Goa Public Gambling Act bans entry of youth below 21 years to board off shore casino vessels.

"Casino management should not have allowed the student to come on the ship," the chief minister said.

The state government is in the process of appointing a gaming commissioner, who may be of the rank of collector or similar, to regulate gaming activities, he said.

Panaji police had booked a case against vessel's captain M S Fernandes, manager Spancar Cuuilidoll and security in-charge and management of Casino Carnival.
