Karnataka : The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and other like-minded Hindu organizations have launched a statewide campaign against the picturization of Jhansi Rani with a hookah in her hand, in the CBSE syllabus text books.

They said that a historical and legendary brave lady, who sacrificed her life for the freedom of the country, Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai has been insulted by the publication of such a picture on the 138th page of the social science text book of 5th standard under the CBSE curriculum published by the Oriental Blacksmith.

"On the other hand, the students have been misguided with the addition of another new lesson to the curriculum –  the life of Rahul Gandhi which states that he is a simple, attractive, humble, and a visionary politician whom students should follow. This way the textbook committee has been misleading the students by urging them to follow in the steps of corrupt politicians," they alleged.

"This is a highly condemnable move on the part of the educational system," the HJS added.

"It is an act of deception and betrayal to picture a freedom fighter like Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai, with a hookah in her hand – a lady who has fought for her motherland, without fear of her life and won the hearts of lacs of true patriots," they said.

"The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti thus condemns this crime committed by the text book committee and urges the authorities concerned to take proper legal action against the educational board. The person or persons responsible for this should issue unconditional apology and both the lessons must be removed from the syllabus," the HJS demanded.

"In condemnation of this unpatriotic act of the CBSE board, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and all other Hindu organizations have called for a statewide protest on Thursday August 4," HJS informed.
