KANNUR: Large number of devotees of Mata Amritanandayi turned out at the specially arranged venue at the Police Maidan here on Tuesday to see the Mata and get her blessing.
Mata Amritanandamayi was given a rousing reception in connection with the `Amritholsavam’ function that began here at 7 p.m.
The venue was packed to capacity, as there was a huge gathering of devotees including women and children.
Addressing the devotees, the Mata said that the world was gripped by sorrow, as happiness appeared to have vanished from the hearts of the people.
In the past, spirituality played a big role in ensuring peace in the minds of the people; she said adding that 80 per cent of diseases were being caused by mental tension lack of peace of mind. Love and compassion alone could bring peace, she said.
Certificates of Amrithanidhi pension scheme instituted by the Amrithanandamayi Matom were distributed to 1,000 new beneficiaries in the district at the function.
Among those who offered felicitation at the function included poet Sugathakumari, writer T. Padmanabhan, District and Sessions Court judge S. Satheenath, municipal chairman K. Upendran and P.P. Lakshmanan.
The Mata later gave darshan to the devotees.
