CUTTACK – Thieves struck at three temples here on Sunday night and decamped with silver jewellery and money worth over Rs three lakh. The thefts were reported from Samant Sahi puja mandap, Sunadei temple at Chauliaganj and Jogmaya temple at Sikharpur.

Police said thieves stole silver jewellery, including the crown weighing 200 grams, of Saraswati from Samant Sahi puja mandap. The thieves also targeted Sunadei and Jogmaya temples, located close to each other. They also made away with the donation boxes.

All incidents came to light on Monday morning when priests found the temple gate's lock broken. Police suspects that a single gang had committed the crime.

"Prima facie evidence suggests that all the three burglaries are the handiwork of a single gang. We are trying to ascertain the identity of the accused and will nab them soon," said a senior police official.
