Indecent hoardings of ‘Ram-leela’ removed from 2 theatres and film title’s changed: Police send letter to theatre owners for removing objectionable portion from the film !

18 November 2013

  • Pro-Hindu activists submit a representation against vulgarity in ‘Ram-leela’

  • Congratulations to devout Hindus who raised their voice against film ‘Ram-leela’ as it denigrates Hindu Deities !

Kolhapur – In the recently released Hindi film titled ‘Ram-leela’, there are many vulgar scenes and songs besides denigration of Hindu Deities which has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus, claimed pro-Hindu activists opposing to the said film. Digital boards exhibited on the city theatres viz. ‘Prabhat’ and ‘Parvati’ were removed after pro-Hindu activists had discussions with the theatre-owners.

1. ‘Ram-leela’, a Hindi film produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been released all over the country on 15th November. The film has been given the name of Sriram, a Deity revered by all Hindus; but in this film, instead of talking about Ramayana, there is only vulgarity in the name of Sriram.

2. Hindus religious sentiments have been hurt as per clause 295 (A) of Indian Penal Code.

3. This act is a crime as per Indian Penal Code; therefore, certificate granted to this film should be withdrawn. A representation to the above effect was submitted to Police Inspector, Pratop Poman of Lakshmipuri police station by ‘Samasta Hindu-premi Sanghatana’ on 16th November.

4. In the evening at 7.30 p.m. pro-Hindu activists met and had discussions with Pradip Patil, the manager of ‘Prabhat’ theatre, Ajit Mane of ‘Ayodhya’ theatre and Sagar Shelke of ‘Parvati’ Multiplex when demand was made to remove vulgar hoardings of the said film.

5. Pradip Patil instructed his workers to immediately bring down a big hoarding of the film ‘Ram-leela’. Sagar Shelke told to contact film’s distribution company for removal of objectionable parts from the film.

6. After removing big hoarding, posters were also removed. In all 3 theatres, a small board was kept showing the name of the film as ‘Goliyon ki Ram-leela’ instead of ‘Ram-leela’.

7. Sagar Shelke had already removed big hoardings of this film.

It has been mentioned in the representation that ..

The name of the film is similar to Prabhu Ramchandra; but the story is about the couple, Romeo and Juliet. This film has distorted Holy Scripture of Hindus viz. Ramayana and has hurt religious sentiments of all Hindus and feelings of Sriram-devotees leading to a wave of anger all over the country. Necessary action should, therefore, be taken against the director, producer and other related persons of this film and its release should be withheld, demanded devout Hindus.

If the Government did not take any note of this representation and screening of the film were continued, it can lead to outbreak of Hindus’ anger, warned the pro-Hindu activists.

Letter submitted to theatre-owners two days back !

Activists of Bajarang Dal raised objection to the film ‘Ram-leela’ at Amaravati and lodged a complaint with the local police. Lakshmipuri police station’s intelligence department took a note of the same and sent letters to all 3 owners of the above theatres instructing them to release the film after removing objectionable and vulgar portion and to take precaution that religious sentiments of Hindus should not be hurt. (It shows that police have rights to stop denigration; but barring Muslims and Christians, such rights are not used by police for Hindus. Police officers from other police stations should try to stop denigration of Hindu Deities like Lakshmipuri police station. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)

Shivaji Vatkar, the District Coordinator of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad has written a letter to Manish Tiwari, the Central Minister for Information and Broadcasting to stop release of Hindi film ‘Ramleela’ so as to prevent denigration of Prabhu Ramchandra.

It has been stated by Shri. Such act is punishable under Indian Penal Code. The title of the film shows association with Prabhu Ramchandra; however, the story is related of Romeo & Juliet. It has, therefore, distorted ‘Ramayana’, the holy scripture of Hindus hurting religious sentiment of Hindus. The release of this film should, therefore, be withheld taking action against producer, director of this film; besdies other associated persons. HJS had earlier sent complaints of denigration of Hindu Deities through films, on number of occasions to Film Censor Board but we never received positive response; therefore, now we are approaching you (Information & Broadcasting Ministry).
