Islamabad: The senior most Hindu judge in Pakistan Supreme Court, Justice Rana Bhagwandas, who is among the front runners for being the country’s next Chief Justice, is learnt to have gone missing and a petition has been filed before the highest court to find out his whereabouts. The petition, filed last evening, asked the SC to direct the government to disclose his whereabouts. The petition expressed concern over a press report saying that Bhagwandas was not in India and the Pakistani High Commission did not know about his visit or his whereabouts.
"The nation is worried and wants to know about the whereabouts of Bhagwandas. Besides, it is the responsibility of the government and the Foreign Affairs Ministry to give information on the whereabouts of the justice and his health, safety and security," the Daily Times quoted Haider as saying in the petition. According to press reports, when Bhagwandas’ brother Sri Chand was contacted in Karachi, he could only confirm that Bhagwandas had left Karachi for New Delhi, but said that he knew nothing about his whereabouts. The report also quoted some judges of the Indian Supreme Court as saying that Bhagwandas did come to India, but had gone back to Pakistan. The petition said that in the given situation, it was the responsibility of the government to clear this situation. The federation of Pakistan, Foreign Affairs Ministry and Justice Rana Bhagwandas have been made respondents to the petition.
