The news item published in Daily ‘Pudhari on Wednesday, the 25th September 2013 is reproduced ahead in brief – It was decided in a meeting held in the Rural Police Station, Sangli, between Andhsharaddha Nirmulan Samiti (ANIS) and trustees of Durgah at  Nandre (District Sangli) to ensure that no  sanctimonious and inhuman practice is  carried out at Durgah, in  future. The meeting was attended by senior police officers . On this occasion, Dr. Pradip Patil of ANIS said, ‘At some religious places, it is claimed that miracles, evil and aghori practices are being carried out on the basis of superhuman powers. Holy ash or water is being splashed on the body of patients. Bodies are being branded (? What is the original sentence ?). All these practices are inhuman and against the Anti-superstition Act. Mahajan report has taken serious cognizance of few inappropriate practices being carried out in Durgah at Nandre. Therefore, all these practices must be stopped in  future.’

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ku. Kavita Nerkar, said, ‘If water or any other substance is administered as medicine in Durgah, it will attract penal action because it is covered under Act as an offence.’

O Hindus !  The activists of ANIS as also  police are aware of inhuman practices going on in Durgah at Nandre (District Sangli) in breach of  provisions of Anti-superstition Ordinance. . Still, ANIS has not lodged any complaint against the trustees of Durgah; nor have police initiated any action by taking exemplary cognizance of the practices  carried out.  Holding a meeting and giving warning to the trustees of the Durgah was just a farce. It shows that this ordinance would not be applicable to Muslims and Christians, but will be used only against Hindus !
