Dharavi police unresponsive to take action; avoid even registering complaints

Mumbai : Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) undertook a drive against sale of crackers with pictures of Hindu Deities under which a survey was undertaken by pro-Hindu activists. It was found that in some shops, crackers with pictures of Sri Lakshmi were on sale in Dharavi area. Shri. Sanjay Chindarkar, Shri. Gangaram Pujari, Shri. Vijit Dubey and Gyanchand Jaiswal of Vajra Dal; besides Shri. Chandrakant Bhadirke of HJS had gone to local police station to lodge a complaint; but Dharavi police showed total indifference in taking action against such sellers.

The pro-Hindu activists brought to the notice of police that many stores like D Selvan Stores, J R Selva Stores, Baba Stores, Jagruti Stores were selling crackers with Deities’ pictures. Police Inspector Keshav Khairat, however, stated that action could not be taken due to inadequate manpower and all police were already deployed with additional duties; thus avoiding to take action. The pro-Hindu activists requested him to at least take down their complaint when he said, “Your representation is like your complaint; therefore, there is no need to register a complaint separately on the same issue; also, if we get time, we will take action against the concerned.” (Will police give such answer to Muslims if denigration of their objects of worship was reported ? It shows that Hindus are treated as secondary citizens in their own country ! – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat) Kharat gave other examples to pro-Hindu activists to evade them. He said that ‘There were pictures of Ganapati on invitation cards; but no action is taken against it; Ganapati idols are immersed in dirty water; but you do not raise voice against the same’ and thus, he tried to avoid taking down complaint. (In fact, HJS has been working for many years towards prevention of various malpractices taking place during Ganapati Festival under its drive of ‘Ideal Ganeshotsava’ by creating awareness amongst people. If Kharat did not know about it, he should have at least taken the trouble to find out, before making accusations. – Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat)
