Issue of construction of slaughter house at Morba
Mangaon (Raigad, Maharashtra) : ‘If Morba Gram-panchayat had not granted permission for slaughter-house, the situation would have been different. Now, we will not be at the receiving end. Hindu will lead life with honour and self-respect and this agitation is its beginning. If the Government pays no heed to the problem, all ‘Dharmagurus’ will join the movement against slaughter-house and agitation will be intensified. It is now time to show existence of Hindus. We will not keep quiet.’ The above warning was given by Vijayraj Khule, the President of ‘Morba Slaughter-house Hatao Sangharsha Samiti’ during recently held demonstrations.
The Government has not granted Permission for slaughter-house being erected at Morba, therefore, Revenue Department has charged fine of Rs. 3 lakhs. The landlord has applied to the District Collector for the land being declared as non-agricultural. It will be sent through Revenue and Police Department and care should be taken that nobody’s religious sentiments are hurt. Notice has been issued that the landlord will have to take permission under clause 44 of Land Revenue Act, 1966 for getting it converted to non-agricultural land before constructing slaughter-house. If it is not done, action will be taken under clause 45 of this Act; since then the construction of slaughter-house has been stopped. ‘Morba Slaughter-house Hatao Sangharsh Samiti’ recently held demonstrations when the above representation was submitted.
