Parashuram Sena’s statement to Sharda Mandir Vidyalaya on March 27
Panaji – Mr. Shailendra Velingkar, President of Parashuram Sena, has accused the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) board of glorifying the Mughals in the textbooks for 7th standard students. He raised this issue in a press conference here. Mr. Sunil Santinezkar was present in the press conference.
The book includes chapters on the Mughals under the headings ‘Rise and Spread of Islam’, ‘Turkish Invasion of India’, ‘The Delhi Sultanate’, ‘The Great Akbar’, ‘The Mughal Empire after Akbar’, ‘The Bhakti and Sufi Movements’, as well as ‘The Rise of Christianity’, ‘Spread of Christianity’ etc. The incensed parents of the students studying in the Sharda Mandir school in Miramar here brought this to the notice of Mr. Velingkar. Mr. Velingkar registered his protest regarding this.
There are 11 secondary schools that follow the ICSE board curriculum in Goa. In this regard, a delegation led by Mr. Shailendra Velingkar had demanded that the school ‘withdraw this book from the next academic year and teach the bright history of Indian national heroes’. Similarly, a memorandum will be presented to the President, Prime Minister, Education Minister, as well as the Chief Minister of Goa and the Education Minister and the Education Officer, to withdraw this book across the nation. Mr. Wellingkar also said that an agitation is also on the cards if necessary.
