Rajampet (Kadapa) :Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman B. Karunakar Reddy said that protection of Hindu dharma and prevention of religious conversions were the main aims of the TTD. Mr Karunakar Reddy visited Tallapaka, the birthplace of Annamacharya, on the saint poet’s 504th death anniversary on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Karunakar Reddy said that compared to past the number of devotees visiting temples and facilities in temples have improved. "However, one should not think that that Hindutva was in a strong position," he added. The TTD chairman said that in the last 30 years Dalits and other downtrodden sections converted to other religions.
He said that the TTD was taking up various programmes to prevent religious conversions. Mr Karunakar Reddy said that all steps would be taken to develop Tallapaka. He said that a proposal was under consideration to open Sudharsan counter at the village. A nagara sankeertana was taken out in Rajampet on the occasion.
Addressing a meeting at Tallapaka, the TTD chairman said that steps would be taken to popularise another 11,000 keertanas written by Annamaiah. He said that Annamaiah had written 32,000 keertanas on Lord Venkateswaraswami and out of them only 12,000 keertanas were available with the TTD. Of them only 1,100 keertanas were well-known to people.
Mr Karunakar Reddy said that a 100-feet statue would be installed at Tallapaka and the road from highway to the village would widened.
