Panvel (Maharashtra) : Representatives of Warakari and Jain organisations from the district recently met Purvanmaya Shri Govardhan Mutt, Puri Pithadheeshwar, Srimat Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalanand Saraswatiji Maharaj at Sanatan’s ashram in Devad. A representation was submitted to him on behalf of Warakari and Jain Organisations for cancellation of anti-superstitions Act and imposition of total ban on sale of liquor and meat at places of pilgrimage like Pandharpur, Alandi, Dehu and Paithan in Maharashtra; as done at Hardwar and Rhushikesh. Shankarachary expressing strong displeasure towards the Government said, “Such Acts are passed due to helplessness of rulers. This Act is against Hindus and there is foreign conspiracy behind such things.”

The delegation that met Shankaracharya included eminent persons viz. H.B.P. Ganesh Maharaj Patil, the President of ‘Konkan Paayi Dindi’, H.B.P. Subhash Maharaj Ghadge, H.B.P. Padmakar Maharaj Patil, H.B.P. Chausheth Popeta, H.B.P. Shankar Maharaj Phadake, H.B.P. Bapu Maharaj Raokar, the Regional President of ‘Rashtreeya Warakari Sena’ and Shri. Motilal Jain from Panvel, representing Jain community. A huge ‘Dharma sabha’ will be held at Pune on 27th November; even there a delegation of Warakari Samradaya will meet Shankaracharya.

H.B.P. Raokar Maharaj said, “Maharashtra Government did not take Shankaracharya, the Highest Guru of Hindus into confidence before passing anti-superstitions Act; moreover, the Act was passed under the influence of all atheists. This Act has created problems for Hindus in following their religious customs, traditions, rituals etc.” On this, Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swami Nishchalanad Saraswatiji Maharaj said, “In the ‘Dharma-sabha’ held at Navi Mumbai on 20th November, I have appealed to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra to come and discuss the anti-superstitions Act with me before it is passed. The demand for banning sale of liquor and meat at places of pilgrimage is appropriate.”
