Maharashtra (Kolhapur) : ‘Vande Mataram’ are the words that led to revolution in this country; but it could not become our national song as national principles were disregarded. Misunderstanding was created amongst minorities after independence about few stanzas of this song and owing to deliberate opposition, this song could not become national anthem. In fact, ‘Vande Mataram’ was used like national ‘mantra’ and should have been our national song; but to appease 10 % non-Hindus, national principles are being disregarded. 3 stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’ have been sacrificed for appeasing these 10% non-Hindus, stated renowned Marathi actor, Shri. Sharad Ponkshe. He was speaking on the topic of ‘national anthem’ in Late Tatyasaheb Tendulkar series of lectures held at a private school by ‘Brahman Sabha, Karveer’ and Sri Mahalakshmi Bank.

Shri. Sharad Ponkshe said further

1.Those who sacrificed their life in the sacred fire of freedom are the true ‘Bhagyavidhata’ of Bharat. The song was written with them in mind; but the region of Sindh mentioned in this song is not part of India.

2. Indians were known as Hindus, staying on the banks of River Sindhu. The region and the River which gave identity to Hindus are not in India; then why was this made as ‘national anthem’? No citizen thinks about these facts while singing national song.

3. People who have lost their identity, are staying in this country today. In schools and colleges, patriotism is not taught.

4. We are taught about second World War, Russian revolution, Lenin, Churchill, communism; but we are not taught revolution of 1857 or Bhagavat Geeta of Srikrushna, Dnyaneshwar, Pasaydaan etc.

5. Not a single education institute is named after Saint Tukaram or Eknath. Education institutes are named after such people who have no connection with this land of Saints. They even get grant from the Government.

6. In a country known for its secularism, why the common civil rights Act is not implemented ?

Shri. Sharad Ponkshe said, “Srikrushna first taught us to pay obeisance to the motherland; but we do not realize this and today, for our selfish interests we have restricted Him only in ‘Dahi-handi’. The amounts kept for ‘Dahi-handis’ can be used for repairing roads in bad condition.”
