‘Surajya Abhiyan’ welcomes the Maharashtra Govt’s ‘Swachha Sundar Bus Sthanak Abhiyan’

The State Government takes note of the issue of unclean ST stands taken up by ‘Surajya Abhiyan’

A drive was undertaken under ‘Surajya Abhiyan (Good Governance)’ taking up the issues related to improving pathetic conditions and maintaining cleanliness at various bus stands at Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Amaravati, Solapur, Pune, Raigad, Penn, Alibaug and Nagpur, etc. in the State. Information on the pitiable condition and dirtiness at these bus stands, along with their photographs, was submitted through a memorandum to the regional controller of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), its Managing Director, besides the state Chief minister who holds the portfolio of Transport. Meetings were held with the respective administration in this context and awareness was created amongst people through social media on this issue. In this background, on the auspicious day of ‘Maharashtra Day’, MSRTC has undertaken a drive called ‘Swachha Sundar Bus Sthanak Abhiyan (beautification of bus stands)’ for 580 bus stands in the State. The maintenance and cleanliness of these bus stands will be taken care of by MSRTC for the whole year. ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ has expressed satisfaction over MSRTC’s drive and Mr Abhishek Murkute, the Coordinator of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ stated that the purpose of taking up such a drive was fulfilled. ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ has also welcomed the decision of MSRTC in this context.

It has been stated by Mr Murkute of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’ in a press release that the drive of beautification of bus stands should not be undertaken with the purpose of getting an award, but it should be taken up as a social duty, making efforts to keep the bus stands always clean.

MSRTC had declared ‘Bus Sthanak Swachhata Mohim (Drive for clean bus stands)’ on the occasion of the 75th year of our Independence, but the condition of all bus stands in the State including the main bus stands was found to be more or less, quite pitiable even after 4 months of taking up this drive. The bus stands and their premises were found to be strewn with litter; the condition of the washrooms was very bad; walls were full of tattered posters and cobwebs on ceilings; broken and dirty benches; no water in taps; closed restaurants; releasing sewage water on the road, ditches in the premises, etc. Under ‘Surajya Abhiyan’, the details about the bus stands were sent to respective regional controllers of the bus stands, demanding improvement in such conditions and providing at least basic amenities, on the occasion of the 75th year of our Independence. The ‘Abhiyan’, now declared by MSRTC, is definitely a good beginning, and we extend our best wishes to the State Government. As a vigilant organisation, we will certainly help the State Government, stated Mr Murkute, the coordinator of ‘Surajya Abhiyan’.
