The G20 invitation : ‘President of Bharat’ instead of ‘President of India’

India is a name given by the British, hence it is a symbol of enslavement. It was expected that it would change after Independence and only one name that is ‘Bharat’ be declared as our nation’s official name. Now if the Government makes the change and names the Nation ‘Bharat’ it will definitely anger the Congress, the anglicised party.  – Editor

New Delhi : The G20 Summit will be held from 9th – 10th of September.  The term “President of Bharat” has been used for the first time in an official invite for a banquet hosted by the President for the dignitaries attending the G20 summit, replacing the traditional “President of India”. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has criticised this move in his tweet.

Jairam Ramesh says, according to Section 1 of the Constitution ‘India’ is called ‘Bharat’. It will be a federation of states, but now there is an attack on the Federation of these states. (Until now, there have been more than 100 amendments to the Constitution. The Nationalists feel that the Government should make this amendment too. – Editor)

Opposition leaders have alleged that the shift to using the name “Bharat” instead of India in English language communication, was a way of preventing the alliance from being identified with the country’s name or could even be a signal from the government that the special session of Parliament to be held between September 18-22 would be about some change in the name of the country. Government sources told The Hindu that all talk of a formal action in the upcoming session of Parliament to change the name of India was “rubbish”.

The G20 Summit is being held in the National Capital from September 9 to 10 under India’s presidency and several heads of state from across the world, including U.S. President Joe Biden, are attending the event.

“If the invite has the word ‘Bharat’, then why is there objection on it?”: Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting

Changing original ‘Bharat’ name to India was British legacy: former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Tuesday said the country’s original name was “unquestionably” Bharat and changing it to “India” was the legacy of the British. “I do not understand why there should be a dispute over the names- Bharat and India. The original name of our country was Bharat. The country is also called Hindustan,” Mahajan told PTI. Mahajan said no person should have any objection to India being called Bharat. “We, as citizens of Bharat, call ourselves Bharatiya,” she added.
