#antihinduhdfc : HDFC Bank disrespects Hindu women and sacred Bindi in advertisements

Instead of Bindi showed ban symbol on forehead

HDFC Bank is facing criticism for its new “Vigil Aunty” ad. In the recent advertisement, a character named “Vigil Aunty” was seen wearing a bindi resembling a ban sign. The advertisement was part of the 2022 HDFC campaign, which aimed to promote secure banking practices nationwide. HDFC Bank collaborated with actress Anuradha Menon to play “Vigil Aunty” for this cyber fraud awareness initiative.

Wearing Bindi is a part of Hindu religious tradition. It is distasteful to put a ban symbol instead of a Bindi. Besides, woman is also considered a Goddess. This is hurting the sentiments of Hindus. This campaign is being criticised on social media.

Many customers have called this ad campaign “anti-Hindu”. #antihinduhdfc also started trending on social media platform X.
