Uttar Pradesh Police registered an FIR in severe charges against some companies and institutions involved in using fake documents to get Halal certifications. The case registered in Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station accused many companies of obtaining Halal certifications by using forged documents and selling varied products based on these permits. (According to Islamic traditions, products considered Halal can only be consumed.)
According to the officials, a case has been registered under sections 120 b/ 153A/ 298/ 384 /420 /467/ 468 /471/ 505 of the Indian Penal Code against Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halala Council of India Mumbai, Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra and some unknown companies in the case. According to a report published by ABP news, the complaint was filed by Shailendra Sharma, a resident of Lucknow in Hazratganj Kotwali.
Halal Certifications on forged documents
The FIR mentioned that many companies including Halal India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust Delhi, Halal Council of India Mumbai, Jamiat Ulema Maharashtra Mumbai, etc. are selling products which they are claiming Halal certification approved, whereas, they have obtained these certificates using the fake documents.
Companies deceiving customers to increase sales
The complainant further alleged that these companies are using Halal certificates for various products to increase their sales, even though these products aren’t Halal. It has been written in the FIR that such types of products are in almost all the markets in the state, which is a sheer violation of public trust. Unfair profits are being earned by the above-mentioned companies by issuing Halal certificates through forged documents without any authority. Besides, public trust is also being played with as it is derogatory to their religion. These companies are using fraudulent forms to influence a particular section of society and are not even following the prescribed standards.

CM Yogi Takes Cognizance
SK Sharma, the complainant, also stated in the FIR that I suspect this undue benefit is being extended to anti-social/anti-national elements. Thus, an anti-social conspiracy is being hatched against a particular community and their products. Even a Halal certificate is being given for the sale of vegetarian products like cosmetics, oil, soap, toothpaste, honey etc. which do not even require such certificates. According to a report published in Jagran.com, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has also taken cognizance of the matter.
