A Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) team on Wednesday conducted a raid on fast food giant McDonald’s outlet in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow as part of the state government’s latest crackdown on inauthentic Halal-certified products.
During the raid, the FSDA officials examined several food items and found Halal-certified products, specifically packaged wraps.
An investigation has been initiated against McDonald’s and authorities plan to impose a fine of up to Rs 3 lakhs on the fast food chain in connection with the sale of Halal-certified products which is now banned in the state.
Meanwhile, the food safety body seized all the Halal-certified products found at McDonald’s outlet during the raid.
This comes days after the Uttar Pradesh government imposed a complete ban on the production, storage, distribution, and sale of food, medicines and cosmetic items with halal certification in the state.
