Shri. Shivajirao Bapusaheb Deshmukh
Sangli: A delegation of the Hindu Janajagruti met the Speaker of the Legislative Council Shri. Shivajirao Deshmukh at his residence here and presented him with a memorandum.
The memorandum states that this bill has indeed been formed to eradicate faith and not blind faith and that it could be misused to attack the common man’s right to practice his faith. Enforcement of this law could create chaos and disrupt the law and order of the state. The basic draft of this bill has several subclauses but due to public opposition it has been reduced to minimal clauses. Yet the government is making attempts to get the bill passed as it is. However in the prevailing circumstances it would be wise for the government to withdraw this bill. There is absolutely no necessity to create new laws to combat blind faith /superstitions, the existing laws are sufficient. Minor changes could be made in them if required to make them more effective. If attempts to make new laws are made then we will fight tooth and nail to oppose it. This budget session must scrap this Anti-Hindu bill. The memorandum also indicated that should the government try to approve this bill the struggle will be intensified.
The members of the HJS showed Shri. Desmukh the resolution to oppose this signed by members of various Hindu sects, social organizations, Pantsanstha and village panchayats. The delegation included the former Commissioner of the Sangli, Miraj and Kupvad municipalities Shri. Suresh Patil and members of the HJS Shri. Mohanrao Chaugule, Shri. Rajaram Repal, Shri. Omkar Homkar , etc.
