Days after Congress leader Kishore Chandra Deo lashed out at ‘rootless wonders and spineless creepers’ for his party’s plight in the Lok Sabha poll, a senior party leader in Kerala on Wednesday termed the party vice-president a ‘joker’ and demanded his removal from the post.

After election drubbing, dissent in Congress out in open; team Rahul under fire

TH Mustafa, a former Minister, also demanded Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Gandhi be made the new party chief.

Addressing reporters in Kochi, Mustafa said that Gandhi should quit from his post and if he does not, he should be removed.

“Rahul behaved like a joker and that’s the reason why the Congress suffered a major reversal in the Lok Sabha poll. He should take responsibility and quit and if not he should be removed and Priyanka Gandhi should be made the new president of the party,” Mustafa, a former Minister in the K Karunakaran Cabinet (1991-95) and five-time legislator, said.

‘Rootless wonders’ in party responsible for Congress rout: Kishore Chandra Deo

Earlier last week, Kishore Chandra Deo, an outgoing Union Minister who lost in the recent Lok Sabha poll after being elected to the House for five terms, had urged the party president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul to do introspection on how to “emancipate the Grand Old Party from the clutches of rootless wonders and spineless creepers, who have held sway for more than two decades and have brought the party to such a pass”.

Deo recalled that Rahul had said much at Jaipur after becoming party vice-president on transformation of the organisation.

“If 50 per cent of it was decided by the party, this situation would not have arisen”.
